PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG)

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a multiplayer online battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of Krafton. Inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, players are parachuted onto an island and must scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill other players and be the last one standing. The game was released for Microsoft Windows in March 2017, for Xbox One in December 2017, for PlayStation 4 in December 2018, for Android and iOS in March 2018, and for Stadia in April 2020.

Gameplay

PUBG is a third-person shooter game in which up to 100 players compete in a battle royale format. Players start the game by parachuting onto an island, where they must scavenge for weapons, vehicles, and other equipment to survive. The game's map is divided into several zones, and players must stay within the safe zone to avoid being killed by the blue zone, which gradually shrinks over time. The last player or team standing wins the game.

PUBG offers a variety of game modes, including solo, duo, squad, and arcade modes. In solo mode, players compete against each other to be the last one standing. In duo mode, players team up with one other player to compete against other duos. In squad mode, players team up with three other players to compete against other squads. Arcade modes offer a variety of different gameplay experiences, such as team deathmatch, capture the flag, and infection.

Development

PUBG was developed by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene, a former Arma 2 and DayZ modder. Greene was inspired to create PUBG after playing the Battle Royale mod for Arma 2. He released the first version of PUBG as a mod for Arma 3 in March 2015. The mod quickly became popular, and Greene was hired by Bluehole to develop PUBG as a standalone game.

PUBG was released for Microsoft Windows in March 2017. The game was a critical and commercial success, selling over 50 million copies worldwide. PUBG has been praised for its realistic gameplay, large maps, and variety of game modes. However, the game has also been criticized for its technical issues, such as lag and cheating.

Esports

PUBG has a thriving esports scene. The game's first major tournament was the PUBG Invitational in March 2017. The tournament was won by the team Cloud9. Since then, PUBG has hosted a number of major tournaments, including the PUBG Global Championship and the PUBG Mobile Global Championship.

PUBG esports is played in a variety of formats, including solo, duo, and squad. The most popular format is squad, in which teams of four players compete against each other. PUBG esports matches are typically played on a custom-made map, and the teams compete to be the last team standing.

PUBG esports is a popular spectator sport, with millions of fans around the world. The game's major tournaments are often streamed live on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube.
