Mahjong, also known as Mah Jongg, is a tile-based game of Chinese origin. It is typically played by four players, using a set of 144 tiles and various other components. The game's objective is to be the first player to complete a winning hand, consisting of four melds and a pair.

Components

A Mahjong set includes the following components:

* Tiles: 144 tiles divided into three suits (characters, bamboos, and dots), four wind tiles (east, south, west, and north), and three dragon tiles (red, green, and white).

* Dice: Two six-sided dice used to determine the starting player and the number of tiles to draw each turn.

* Wind indicators: Four small tiles used to indicate the prevailing wind and the seating positions of the players.

* Flower and season tiles: Eight special tiles that can be used to enhance certain hands.

* Racks: Four bamboo racks used to hold the tiles during play.

Gameplay

The game begins with the players randomly selecting a starting player. The starting player rolls the dice and draws the corresponding number of tiles from the wall (the remaining tiles stacked in the center of the table). The player then discards one tile.

The next player then draws a tile from the wall or the discard pile. If the player can form a meld (a set of three or four identical tiles or a sequence of three or more consecutive tiles) using the new tile, they can declare it and place it face up on the table.

Players continue to draw and discard tiles, trying to complete their winning hands. When a player completes a winning hand, they declare "Mahjong!" and the game ends.

Winning Hands

There are numerous possible winning hands in Mahjong. The most common type of winning hand is a four-meld hand, which consists of four melds and a pair. Other types of winning hands include:

* Thirteen orphans: A hand with no melds and only thirteen unique tiles.

* Little four winds: A hand with four melds, each containing a wind tile.

* All triplets: A hand with four melds, each consisting of three identical tiles.

* Big three dragons: A hand with three melds, each containing a dragon tile.

Scoring

When a player wins, the other players pay them a certain number of points based on the type of winning hand and the tiles used. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
