Microsoft Solitaire Collection revitalizes the classic card game experience, offering a diverse range of solitaire variations for both casual and seasoned players. The collection features Klondike, the quintessential solitaire experience, challenging players to build foundations of cards from Ace to King, suit by suit. Spider Solitaire, known for its intricate gameplay, tasks players with building complete descending sequences of cards within the same suit. FreeCell, a more strategic variant, allows players to utilize four free cells as temporary holding spaces to strategically move cards and unravel complex layouts. Pyramid Solitaire presents a unique challenge, requiring players to pair cards that add up to 13 to remove them from the pyramid-shaped tableau. Finally, TriPeaks offers a relaxed and casual experience, allowing players to clear cards in ascending or descending order regardless of suit.

Klondike, often simply referred to as "Solitaire," remains the most iconic variant within the collection. Players are dealt seven columns of cards, with the top card of each column face up. The objective is to build four foundations, one for each suit, starting with the Ace and ascending to the King. Players can move cards between columns, placing cards of alternating colors and descending rank on top of each other. The remaining cards are dealt face down in the stock pile, and players can draw cards one or three at a time to reveal potential moves.

Spider Solitaire, with its two suit and four suit variations, offers a more complex challenge. The game begins with ten columns of cards, dealt face down except for the top card of each column. The objective is to build complete descending sequences of cards within the same suit, from King to Ace. Once a complete sequence is formed, it is automatically removed from the tableau. The difficulty of Spider Solitaire lies in managing the multiple suits and strategically planning moves to create these sequences.

FreeCell, renowned for its strategic depth, provides players with four free cells, acting as temporary holding spaces for cards. This added flexibility allows for more complex maneuvers and strategic planning. The objective remains the same as Klondike: build four foundations from Ace to King, suit by suit. However, the free cells offer a crucial advantage, allowing players to temporarily isolate cards and create opportunities for otherwise impossible moves.

Pyramid Solitaire introduces a different gameplay dynamic. Cards are dealt in a pyramid formation, and the objective is to remove pairs of cards that add up to 13. Kings, having a value of 13, can be removed individually. Players can only remove uncovered cards, adding a layer of strategy to the game. The stock pile and waste pile provide additional cards to help players find matching pairs and clear the pyramid.

TriPeaks offers a more casual and relaxing solitaire experience. Cards are dealt in three overlapping peaks, and players can remove cards that are one rank higher or lower than the current card, regardless of suit. The objective is to clear all the cards from the peaks. TriPeaks provides a less demanding alternative to the more strategic variants, offering a quick and enjoyable solitaire experience.
