Solitaire Card Game

Solitaire, also known as Patience, is a single-player card game that has captivated players for centuries. Its enduring popularity stems from its challenging gameplay, simple rules, and the satisfaction of successfully completing a game.

Objective

The primary goal of Solitaire is to arrange all 52 cards into four foundation piles, one for each suit (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades). Each foundation pile must be built in ascending order, starting with the ace and ending with the king.

Gameplay

The game begins with 28 cards dealt into seven tableau piles. The top card of each tableau pile is face up, while the remaining cards are face down. The remaining 24 cards form the stock pile.

Players can move cards between the tableau piles to create sequences in descending order and alternating colors (e.g., a red king on a black queen). The goal is to expose the face-down cards and create spaces in the tableau piles.

The stock pile serves as a source of additional cards. Players can draw cards from the stock pile and place them on the tableau piles or the foundation piles. However, players can only draw three times from the stock pile per game.

Foundation Piles

The foundation piles are built by moving aces from the tableau piles or the stock pile to the corresponding empty foundation pile. Once an ace is placed, players can build the foundation pile by moving cards in ascending order of the same suit.

Tableau Piles

The tableau piles are where most of the gameplay takes place. Players can move cards between the tableau piles to create sequences and expose face-down cards. Empty tableau piles can be filled with a king or a sequence starting with a king.

Winning

A game of Solitaire is won when all 52 cards are arranged in the four foundation piles in ascending order and by suit.

Variations

There are numerous variations of Solitaire, each with its own unique set of rules and challenges. Some popular variations include:

* Klondike: The classic version of Solitaire described above.

* Spider: A more challenging variation where cards are dealt into ten tableau piles instead of seven.

* FreeCell: A variation where players can use four empty cells to store cards temporarily.

* Pyramid: A variation where cards are arranged in a pyramid shape and players must pair cards that add up to 13.
