Spades is a classic trick-taking card game for four players in two partnerships. The objective of the game is to be the first partnership to reach 500 points by taking tricks and fulfilling bid contracts.

Gameplay

The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The cards are ranked from high to low: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. The spades suit is the trump suit, meaning it outranks all other suits.

At the start of each round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Players then bid on how many tricks they think their partnership will take. The minimum bid is 1, and the maximum bid is 13.

After the bidding, the player to the left of the dealer leads with any card. Players must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they may play any card, including a spade. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a spade is played, in which case the highest spade wins.

The partnership that takes the most tricks in a round scores 10 points for each trick they bid, plus 1 point for each additional trick they take. If a partnership fails to make their bid, they lose 10 points for each trick they underbid.

Special Bids

There are two special bids in spades:

* Nil: A bid of 0 tricks. If a partnership successfully bids nil, they score 100 points. However, if they fail to take any tricks, they lose 100 points.

* Blind Nil: A bid of 0 tricks without looking at your cards. If a partnership successfully bids blind nil, they score 200 points. However, if they fail to take any tricks, they lose 200 points.

Winning

The first partnership to reach 500 points wins the game. If both partnerships reach 500 points in the same round, the partnership with the higher score wins.
