3D Meiotic Division is a learning tool consisting of a mobile app and an activity guide that allows the user to visualize part of the real world in augmented reality through a digital device. This tool integrates tangible physical elements with virtual models to create an augmented reality in real time. The app is designed to be used on any tablet or smartphone.

The activity guide contains image triggers that are read by the mobile app to provide an enhanced visualization of all the phases of meiotic division.

3D Meiotic Division is designed to be used as a teaching and learning tool by secondary as well as higher education teachers and students, particularly for teaching the fundamentals of biology to students in biological sciences, health care, and teaching university programs. Cell division is an essential content in genetics and cell biology as it helps understand the core mechanisms of genetic variability in sexually reproducing organisms.

3D Meiotic Division has been developed by the Laboratorio de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica para la Educación en Ciencias (LIITEC-ULS), an interdepartmental initiative of Universidad de La Serena. The app and activity guide are available for download on Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

3D Meiotic Division

3D Meiotic Division is an educational game designed to teach players about the process of meiosis, a type of cell division that occurs in the reproductive organs of sexually reproducing organisms. The game uses 3D graphics to create a realistic and interactive environment in which players can explore the different stages of meiosis.

The game begins with a brief introduction to the process of meiosis. Players then enter a virtual laboratory, where they can use a variety of tools to manipulate and examine cells. Players can use the mouse to rotate and zoom in on cells, and they can use the keyboard to control the speed of the simulation.

The game is divided into four main stages: prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase I, and telophase I. In each stage, players are presented with a different set of challenges. For example, in prophase I, players must identify the homologous chromosomes and pair them up. In metaphase I, players must align the chromosomes along the equator of the cell. In anaphase I, players must separate the homologous chromosomes and move them to opposite poles of the cell. In telophase I, players must divide the cytoplasm and create two new daughter cells.

Once players have completed all four stages of meiosis, they can view a summary of the process. The summary includes a diagram of the different stages of meiosis, as well as a description of the key events that occur during each stage.

3D Meiotic Division is a valuable educational tool that can help players to learn about the process of meiosis. The game's realistic graphics and interactive environment make it a fun and engaging way to learn about this important biological process.
