A note on battery:
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare City Guide, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Foursquare: A Timeless Game of Strategy and SkillFoursquare, a beloved playground classic, is a dynamic game that combines agility, strategy, and spatial awareness. Played on a designated court, it captivates players of all ages with its competitive nature and engaging gameplay.
Court Setup and Gameplay
The game takes place on a rectangular court divided into four equal squares. Each square is assigned a number from 1 to 4, with the lowest number representing the "King" square and the highest number being the "Loser" square. Players take turns hitting a ball into the court, aiming to land it within the boundaries of a square.
Objective of the Game
The ultimate goal of Foursquare is to advance through the squares from Loser to King. Players achieve this by successfully hitting the ball into the next highest square without it bouncing outside the court or being caught by an opponent.
Hitting Rules
Each player has one hit per turn. The ball must be hit with an open hand or fist and may not be carried or thrown. Players must hit the ball directly into the target square, without touching any other squares or hitting it twice in a row.
Advancement and Elimination
If a player successfully hits the ball into the next highest square, they advance to that square. If they miss or fail to hit the ball into the correct square, they lose their turn. The player in the Loser square is eliminated if they miss or make a mistake. The eliminated player then rotates to the back of the line to await their next turn.
King and Loser
The player in the King square is the most advanced player and has the highest status. They have the advantage of hitting the ball into any of the lower squares, making it more difficult for other players to advance. Conversely, the player in the Loser square is the least advanced and must work their way up through the squares.
Strategy and Skill
Foursquare requires a combination of strategy and physical skill. Players must anticipate the trajectory of the ball, position themselves effectively, and develop a keen sense of timing. Advanced players employ various techniques, such as bouncing the ball off the walls or hitting it with different parts of their hand, to gain an advantage.
Social Aspect
Foursquare is not only a competitive game but also a social activity. It encourages interaction, teamwork, and fair play. Players often engage in friendly banter and support one another, fostering a sense of community.
Variations
Over time, Foursquare has evolved into various variations, each with its own unique rules and gameplay. Some popular variations include Five Square, Six Square, and Elimination Foursquare. These variations offer different challenges and cater to players of varying skill levels.
Conclusion
Foursquare remains a timeless playground favorite that has captivated generations of players. Its simple rules, engaging gameplay, and social aspect make it a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether played competitively or recreationally, Foursquare continues to provide a fun and rewarding experience that fosters strategy, skill, and camaraderie.
