FOX 28 Columbus, known formally as WSYX, is a television station licensed to Columbus, Ohio, United States, serving the Columbus metropolitan area. The station is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and is affiliated with the Fox network. FOX 28 Columbus broadcasts its digital signal on VHF channel 10 (virtual channel 28) from a transmitter located on Whetstone Mountain in Clinton Township, Ohio.
History
WSYX began broadcasting on December 12, 1953, as an independent station owned by the Dispatch Printing Company, publisher of The Columbus Dispatch. The station's original studios were located in the Dispatch building in downtown Columbus. In 1955, WSYX became an affiliate of the CBS network. In 1986, Dispatch Printing sold WSYX to the Gillett Communications Company.
In 1994, Gillett Communications sold WSYX to Fox Television Stations, a subsidiary of News Corporation. Fox Television Stations then converted WSYX into a Fox affiliate. In 1997, Fox Television Stations sold WSYX to Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Programming
FOX 28 Columbus airs a variety of local and syndicated programming, including news, weather, sports, and entertainment shows. The station's local newscasts are produced from its studios in the Brewery District in downtown Columbus. FOX 28 Columbus also produces a number of local sports programs, including "Sports Sunday" and "High School Sports Central."
