Hemmerle is a two-player abstract strategy board game played on an 8x8 checkered board. The game is named after its inventor, George Hemmerle, who first published the game in 1979.

Objective

The objective of Hemmerle is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or to block them from being able to move.

Setup

Each player starts the game with 12 pieces. The pieces are placed on the board in a 3x4 rectangle in the center of the board. The pieces are arranged so that each player has two pieces on each of the four rows of the board.

Gameplay

Players take turns moving one of their pieces. A piece can move one space forward, backward, left, or right. A piece cannot move diagonally.

If a piece moves into a space that is occupied by an opponent's piece, the opponent's piece is captured and removed from the board.

A player can also capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it. To do this, the player must have a piece on either side of the opponent's piece. The player then moves the piece that is behind the opponent's piece over the opponent's piece and onto the space that is in front of it. The opponent's piece is then captured and removed from the board.

Winning
