KUTV, virtual channel 2, is a CBS-affiliated television station licensed to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The station is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, as part of a duopoly with MyNetworkTV affiliate KMYU (channel 12). KUTV's studios are located on West Temple Street in downtown Salt Lake City, and its transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains.

History

KUTV first went on the air on October 18, 1954, as KTVT, the flagship station of the newly formed Intermountain Network. The station was originally owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which also owned KSL-TV (channel 5). In 1960, the LDS Church sold KTVT to Time-Life Broadcasting. Time-Life changed the station's call letters to KUTV in 1961.

KUTV has been affiliated with CBS since its inception. The station has been a major player in the Utah television market for decades, and has consistently been one of the top-rated stations in the state.

Programming

KUTV's programming schedule consists of a mix of local news, syndicated programming, and CBS network shows. The station's local newscasts are among the most-watched in Utah, and the station has won numerous awards for its news coverage.

KUTV also produces a number of local programs, including the morning show "Good Day Utah" and the public affairs program "Inside Utah." The station also airs a variety of syndicated programming, including talk shows, game shows, and reality shows.

KUTV broadcasts on UHF channel 28. The station's digital signal is multiplexed:

KUTV's transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains. The station's signal covers most of Utah, as well as parts of Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming.

Ownership

KUTV is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which acquired the station in 2017. Sinclair is the largest owner of television stations in the United States.
