The Reveille provides news, sports, entertainment and opinion content daily about and for the LSU community, including students and graduates, faculty and staff, campus neighbors and others with interest in Louisiana’s flagship university with more than 31,000 students.

The Reveille has been published for more than 100 years. The news organization is led by student editors and staffed by student reporters, photographers, videographers, copy editors and page designers – and is supported by full-time professional staff in the LSU Office of Student Media who manage business operations, including advertising sales. Many of the Reveille’s student journalists are studying in LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication.

LSU Reveille is a unique and cherished tradition at Louisiana State University. The live mascot, a purebred female collie, holds the rank of Colonel and serves as a symbol of the university's spirit and pride.

History and Selection

The tradition began in 1933 when a group of students presented the university with a collie named Mike. Since then, there have been 32 Reveilles, each selected through a rigorous process. Candidates must be purebred collies, meet specific physical and temperamental criteria, and possess the ability to handle the demanding role.

Training and Responsibilities

Reveille receives extensive training from the Reveille Committee, a student organization responsible for her care and well-being. She attends football games, parades, and other university events, where she leads the crowd in cheers and displays her unwavering loyalty. Reveille also makes appearances at hospitals, schools, and other community functions.

LSU Reveille has become an integral part of the university's identity. She embodies the values of courage, loyalty, and determination that are synonymous with the LSU community. Current Mascot

The current LSU Reveille, Reveille X, is a black and white collie who assumed her duties in 2022. She is known for her playful personality, infectious energy, and unwavering spirit. Reveille X continues the legacy of her predecessors, bringing joy and pride to the LSU family.
