Mahar is a trick-taking card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The game is played by four players in two partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other. The goal of the game is to be the first partnership to reach 500 points.

Gameplay

The game begins with the player to the left of the dealer shuffling the deck and dealing 13 cards to each player. The player to the left of the dealer then leads with any card. The other players must follow suit if possible, or they may play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick.

After the first trick, the player who won the trick leads the next trick. This continues until all 13 tricks have been played.

Bidding

Before each hand, each player bids on the number of tricks they believe their partnership will take. The minimum bid is 1, and the maximum bid is 13. The player with the highest bid becomes the declarer.

Betting

After the bidding, the declarer's partner makes a bet. The bet can be any amount from 1 to 10. The other partnership then has the option to double or triple the bet. If the other partnership doubles or triples the bet, the declarer's partner must either accept the bet or forfeit the hand.

Scoring

If the declarer's partnership takes the number of tricks they bid, they win the bet. If they take more tricks than they bid, they win the bet plus a bonus. If they take fewer tricks than they bid, they lose the bet.

The points won or lost on each hand are added to the partnership's total score. The first partnership to reach 500 points wins the game.

Strategy

Mahar is a game of strategy and skill. There are many different factors to consider when bidding and betting, including the strength of your hand, the strength of your partner's hand, and the bids and bets of the other partnership.
