Maratón CDMX TelcelOverview
Maratón CDMX Telcel is an annual marathon held in Mexico City, organized by the Athletics Federation of the State of Mexico. The race has been held since 1983 and is one of the most prestigious marathons in Latin America. The course is a flat, fast loop that starts and finishes in the Zócalo, the central square of Mexico City.
History
The first Maratón CDMX Telcel was held on December 4, 1983, with 1,200 participants. The race was won by Mexican runner Rodolfo Gómez in a time of 2:10:59. The women's race was won by American runner Joan Benoit in a time of 2:24:52.
Over the years, the Maratón CDMX Telcel has grown in popularity and prestige. In 2019, over 30,000 runners participated in the race. The race has also attracted some of the world's top runners, including Haile Gebrselassie, Paula Radcliffe, and Eliud Kipchoge.
Course
The Maratón CDMX Telcel course is a flat, fast loop that starts and finishes in the Zócalo. The course passes by some of Mexico City's most iconic landmarks, including the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Torre Latinoamericana, and the Monumento a la Revolución.
The course is divided into four loops, each of which is approximately 10 kilometers long. The first loop starts in the Zócalo and heads east along Paseo de la Reforma. The second loop turns north onto Avenida Insurgentes and then west onto Avenida Chapultepec. The third loop turns south onto Avenida Juárez and then east onto Avenida Madero. The fourth loop returns to the Zócalo via Avenida 5 de Mayo.
Qualifying
Runners who wish to participate in the Maratón CDMX Telcel must qualify by meeting certain time standards. The qualifying standards vary depending on the runner's age and gender.
Registration
Registration for the Maratón CDMX Telcel opens in January. The race is typically sold out within a few weeks, so runners are encouraged to register early.
Race Day
The Maratón CDMX Telcel is held on the first Sunday of December. The race starts at 7:00 AM.
