A self-hosted platform for creating and reading ebooks with synced narration

Storyteller is a self-hosted platform for creating and reading ebooks with synced narration. It's made of of three components: the API server, the web interface, and the mobile apps. Together, these components allow you to take audiobooks and ebooks that you already own and automatically synchronize them, as well as read or listen to (or both!) the resulting synced books.

Storyteller provides two relatively unique use cases:

- Providing a better experience for readers that wish to be able to switch between listening to a book in audiobook format and reading it as a digital, visual book

- Providing a guided narration experience for users that would like to listen to a book's narration while reading it.

Storyteller is also self-hosted software. This means that instead of running on servers owned by a company or other organization, it runs on your servers. You own your content and your data, and it will always be available to you!

Overview

Storyteller is a tabletop role-playing game (RPG) where players collaboratively create and narrate a story. One player takes on the role of the Storyteller, who guides the narrative and adjudicates the rules. The other players create characters and embody them within the story, making choices and interacting with the world and each other.

Gameplay

Storyteller uses a simple and intuitive system based on dice rolls and a pool of dice known as the "Storyteller Dice." Players roll these dice to determine the outcomes of their actions and resolve conflicts. The Storyteller may also call for dice rolls to determine events or challenges within the story.

Characters

Characters in Storyteller are defined by their Attributes, Skills, and Merits. Attributes represent innate abilities such as strength, intelligence, and charisma. Skills are learned abilities such as fighting, stealth, and persuasion. Merits are special advantages or abilities that enhance a character's capabilities.

Setting

Storyteller can be played in a wide variety of settings, from historical to fantasy to science fiction. The Storyteller creates the setting and establishes the rules and limitations of the world. Players can then create characters that fit within that setting and explore its unique possibilities.

Storytelling

The core of Storyteller is the collaborative storytelling experience. Players work together to create a dynamic and engaging story. The Storyteller guides the narrative, providing challenges and opportunities for the characters. Players make choices and interact with the world, shaping the story's direction.

Themes

Storyteller encourages players to explore themes and ideas through their characters and stories. Common themes include heroism, friendship, betrayal, and the nature of good and evil. Players can use the game to delve into complex issues and create meaningful experiences.
