Cacheta is a traditional card game of Spanish origin, widely played in South America, especially in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. It is a simple yet engaging game that combines elements of skill, strategy, and luck.

Objective

The primary objective of Cacheta is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in their hand. The game is played with a standard 40-card Spanish deck, which includes 10 numbers (1 to 7, plus 10, 11, and 12), three face cards (Jack, Queen, King), and four aces.

Gameplay

The game begins with each player being dealt 5 cards. One card is then placed face up on the table to start the discard pile. The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by either picking up the top card from the draw pile or discarding a card from their hand onto the discard pile. If the discarded card matches the number or suit of the top card on the discard pile, it forms a "cacheta," and the player who discarded it earns extra points.

Scoring

Points are awarded for forming cachetas and for discarding cards. A cacheta of three or more cards earns 1 point, while a cacheta of seven or more cards earns 3 points. Discarding a card that matches the number or suit of the top card on the discard pile earns 1 point. The first player to reach a predetermined score (usually 15 or 21) wins the game.

Variations

There are several variations of Cacheta, including:

* Truco Cacheta: A more complex version that involves betting and trick-taking elements.

* Montevideo Cacheta: A variation popular in Uruguay where players can declare a "truco" to double the stakes.
