Overview

Pengu is a cooperative board game for 2-4 players designed by Stefan Dorra and published by Amigo Games in 2009. Players take on the role of penguins who must work together to guide their chicks to the safety of their nest before the ice floe they are standing on breaks apart.

Gameplay

The game is played on a hexagonal grid of ice floes. Each player controls a penguin and two chicks. On their turn, a player can move their penguin up to three spaces, or they can move one of their chicks one space. Players can also push ice floes to create new paths or block their opponents.

The goal of the game is to get all of the chicks back to the nest before the ice floe breaks apart. The ice floe breaks apart when a player moves their penguin onto a space that is not connected to the nest. If the ice floe breaks apart, all of the chicks that are not in the nest are lost.

* 4 penguin pawns

* 8 chick pawns

* 20 ice floe tiles

* 1 die

Setup

To set up the game, place the game board in the center of the table. Shuffle the ice floe tiles and place them face down in a pile. Place the nest in the center of the game board. Each player chooses a penguin and two chicks and places them on the starting space.

Gameplay

The youngest player goes first. On their turn, a player can take one of the following actions:

* Move their penguin up to three spaces.

* Move one of their chicks one space.

* Push an ice floe one space.

Players can only move their penguin onto spaces that are connected to the nest. They can only move their chicks onto spaces that are adjacent to their penguin. Players can only push ice floes that are adjacent to their penguin.

If a player moves their penguin onto a space that is not connected to the nest, the ice floe breaks apart. All of the chicks that are not in the nest are lost.

The game ends when all of the chicks are safely in the nest, or when the ice floe breaks apart.

Winning

If all of the chicks are safely in the nest, the players win. If the ice floe breaks apart, the players lose.
