GAMEPLAY

Just like golf, the goal of the Play Nine is to take as few strokes as possible. Limit your strokes by matching pairs and getting a Hole-In-One. Take the fewest strokes and go for the lowest score after 9 Holes!

Each player is dealt eight cards with a discard pile and draw pile at the center of the table. To start the game each player flips two cards face up. Moving clockwise each player draws from either the deck or discard pile and has an option to replace one of their face up or facedown cards. If a player does not want their drawn card they may choose to flip one of their facedown cards for their turn. Players work to match vertical pairs of cards to reduce their number of strokes. Just like the game of golf, the person with the lowest score wins the hole.

Play Nine, also known as Golf or Nine-Card Golf, is a card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The objective of the game is to achieve the lowest possible score over the course of nine deals, much like the sport of golf. Each deal represents a "hole," and the cumulative score across all nine deals determines the overall winner.

The game begins with each player receiving nine cards, dealt face down in a 3x3 grid. Players then choose two cards to turn face up, revealing their values. These two face-up cards initiate the play and cannot be changed throughout the deal. The remaining seven cards remain face down, their values hidden.

The subsequent rounds involve drawing a card from the remaining deck or taking the top card of the discard pile. The player then chooses which card in their 3x3 grid to replace with the newly drawn card. The replaced card is then discarded face up, forming the discard pile. This process continues until all players have no face-down cards remaining in their grid.

The scoring system in Play Nine is based on the final face-up values of the cards in each player's 3x3 grid. Number cards are scored at their face value. Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth 10 points each. Aces are worth one point. Jokers, if used, are worth zero points. The total score for each deal is the sum of the values of the face-up cards.

Strategic card replacement is crucial in Play Nine. Players must carefully consider which cards to replace and when. Replacing high-value cards with lower-value cards is the primary goal. However, the hidden nature of the face-down cards introduces an element of chance and risk. A player might choose to replace a face-down card hoping for a lower value, only to uncover a higher value card.
