Content
Demonstrates the Stroop Effect and challenge your brain.
The purpose of this app is to demonstrate and illustrate an interesting phenomenon, which appears into the brain/neurons, when a task for our brain challenges the links between the visual color incoming by eye nerves and the word of the color processed by the rational mind.
The Stroop test is actually challenging our brain and mind.
Background from neuroscience: The eye nerves are delivering signals to the brain much faster than the rational mind, because the eye nerves respond immediately and the rational mind needs time to think.
When we have time pressure to answer correctly, this specifics of our brain and nerves are creating a impulse inside us, where we want to click on the incorrect answer and in the same time we need to use our will, stay focused and think fast consciously in order to have correct answers and make all questions each time for shorter period of time.
Playing instructions:
First you need to select one of two modes. By default it starts in Stroop Effect or "Get Meaning, Put Color" as named in the menu.
When a game starts the first question appears and you have to click one of the four buttons with colors as an answer.
So, the first goal is to have as many as possible correct answers at the end of the test sequence.
When you start achieving all correct answers easily, it is time to speed up your reactions and make them for a shorter time.
Features:
1. Playing mode "Get Meaning, Put Color" or Stroop Effect - Understand the meaning and click the button colored with this color.
2. Playing mode "Get Color, Put Meaning" - Recognize the colour and click the button with the correct written color as text.
3. Questions organized as a test sequence.
4. Shows the result after the test.
5. High scores - keeps track of your best result for each level.
6. Supports different color palettes for different tastes.
Permissions:
The free version of the app uses ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE and INTERNET permissions, because it shows ads.
Your feedback and/or review is more than welcome.

Stroop Effect Test: A Cognitive Assessment of Attention and InhibitionThe Stroop Effect Test is a renowned neuropsychological assessment designed to evaluate cognitive functions related to attention, inhibition, and processing speed. It is based on the Stroop effect, a phenomenon in which the brain takes longer to process conflicting information, such as when the color of a word does not match its printed name.
Procedure:
The test consists of three parts:
* Word Reading Task: Participants read a list of color words printed in black ink.
* Color Naming Task: Participants name the color of ink used to print color patches.
* Stroop Task: Participants name the color of ink used to print color words, where the word and color do not match (e.g., the word "red" printed in blue ink).
Scoring:
The Stroop Effect is calculated as the difference in reaction time between the Stroop Task and the Word Reading Task. Longer reaction times in the Stroop Task indicate greater interference from conflicting information, suggesting poorer attention and inhibition abilities.
Applications:
The Stroop Effect Test has numerous applications in clinical and research settings:
* Neuropsychological Assessment: Identifying cognitive deficits in conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dementia, and schizophrenia.
* Attention Training: Assessing the effectiveness of interventions designed to improve attention and inhibition.
* Research on Cognitive Processes: Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying attention, inhibition, and processing speed.
Interpretation:
* Normal Performance: Reaction times in the Stroop Task are typically longer than in the Word Reading Task, but the difference is not significant.
* Attention Deficit: Significantly prolonged reaction times in the Stroop Task may indicate difficulty in suppressing irrelevant information, suggesting attention deficits.
* Inhibition Deficit: Extreme difficulty in the Stroop Task, particularly in the incongruent condition, may point to impaired inhibitory control.
* Cognitive Impairment: Severe interference in the Stroop Task can be associated with cognitive decline or dementia.
Factors Influencing Performance:
* Age: Reaction times generally increase with age, affecting Stroop performance.
* Education: Higher education levels tend to be associated with better Stroop performance.
* Attentional Demand: The Stroop effect is more pronounced when the attentional demands are higher.
* Cognitive Fatigue: Prolonged testing or other cognitive demands can impair Stroop performance.
Limitations:
* Cultural Bias: The Stroop Effect Test may be biased towards cultures that rely heavily on reading.
* Test-Retest Reliability: Repeated administrations of the test can result in practice effects, potentially influencing the results.
* Validity: The Stroop Effect Test measures specific cognitive functions but may not fully capture overall cognitive abilities.
