Taking AdvantageOverview:
Taking Advantage is a strategic board game for two players, ages 10 and up. The objective of the game is to be the first player to score 10 points by capturing your opponent's pieces or forcing them to move into a position where they can be captured.
Setup:
The game is played on a 6x6 grid. Each player has 12 pieces, which are placed on the board in a predetermined starting position.
Gameplay:
Players take turns moving one of their pieces one space in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). Pieces can move through empty spaces or over their own pieces, but they cannot move over opponent's pieces.
Capturing Pieces:
When a player's piece moves into a space adjacent to an opponent's piece, they can capture the opponent's piece by "taking advantage" of it. To do this, the player simply moves their piece into the space occupied by the opponent's piece, removing the opponent's piece from the board.
Scoring:
* Capturing an opponent's piece: 1 point
* Forcing an opponent's piece into a position where it can be captured: 2 points
Winning the Game:
The first player to score 10 points wins the game.
Strategy:
Taking Advantage is a game of strategy and tactics. Players must carefully consider their moves in order to capture opponent's pieces and avoid being captured themselves. Some key strategies include:
* Controlling the center of the board: The center of the board provides more mobility and options for capturing pieces.
* Blocking opponent's pieces: By blocking opponent's pieces, you can restrict their movement and make it easier to capture them.
* Creating traps: By setting up a trap, you can lure your opponent's pieces into a position where they can be captured.
* Sacrificing pieces: Sometimes, it can be beneficial to sacrifice a piece in order to gain a strategic advantage.
Variations:
There are several variations of Taking Advantage, including:
* No Sacrifice Variant: In this variant, players cannot sacrifice their own pieces.
* Double Capture Variant: In this variant, players score 2 points for capturing two opponent's pieces in a single move.
* Team Variant: In this variant, players play in teams of two, with each team controlling 6 pieces.
