Star Wars Galaxies (SWG) was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the Star Wars universe. Developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and LucasArts, it was released in 2003 and shut down in 2011.

Gameplay

SWG featured a vast and immersive world where players could create their own characters and embark on a variety of adventures. Players could choose from a wide range of professions, including bounty hunter, smuggler, trader, and Jedi Knight. Each profession offered unique skills and abilities, allowing players to specialize in different roles.

The game's sandbox environment encouraged exploration and player-driven storytelling. Players could travel seamlessly between planets, interact with non-player characters (NPCs), and participate in dynamic events. SWG also featured a robust crafting system, allowing players to create their own weapons, armor, and other items.

Factions and Combat

SWG was divided into three factions: the Galactic Republic, the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS), and the Jedi Order. Players could align themselves with any of these factions and engage in large-scale battles for territory control. Combat was action-based and required players to master a variety of skills and tactics.

Player Housing and Economy

SWG featured a unique player housing system that allowed players to purchase and decorate their own homes. Players could also participate in the game's economy by trading goods, crafting items, and providing services. The game's economy was player-driven, with prices fluctuating based on supply and demand.

Jedi System

SWG's Jedi system allowed players to become Jedi Knights and access powerful Force abilities. To become a Jedi, players had to complete a series of quests and demonstrate their dedication to the Jedi Code. Jedi Knights could use a variety of Force powers, including telekinesis, healing, and lightsaber combat.

Legacy Server

In 2019, a fan-run legacy server called SWG Legends was launched. SWG Legends allows players to experience a version of the game that is based on the original 2003 release. The legacy server features many of the same mechanics and content as the original game, but with some improvements and updates.
