Overview

Whist 22 is a trick-taking card game played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The game is typically played by four players in two partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other. The objective of the game is to be the first partnership to score 22 points by taking tricks.

Gameplay

The game begins with the dealer dealing 13 cards to each player. The remaining cards are placed face down in a pile in the center of the table. The player to the left of the dealer leads by playing a card from their hand. The other players must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card from their hand. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a trump card is played.

Trumps are designated by the suit that is turned up when the deck is cut. The trump suit is always higher than any other suit. If a player plays a trump card, it wins the trick regardless of the suit of the other cards played.

The player who wins the trick collects the cards and places them face down in a pile in front of them. The player to the left of the winner then leads the next trick.

Scoring

Points are scored by taking tricks. Each trick taken is worth 1 point. In addition, the following bonuses are awarded:

* Ruffing: Taking a trick with a trump card when another suit was led is worth 1 additional point.

* Going alone: Winning all 13 tricks is worth 4 additional points.

Winning

The first partnership to score 22 points wins the game. If both partnerships score 22 points in the same hand, the partnership with the most tricks wins.
