Case-MateCase-Mate is a deductive reasoning game for two or more players. The objective of the game is to be the first player to deduce the correct combination of four attributes (color, shape, number, and shading) for a hidden object.
The game is played on a board with 16 squares, each of which contains a different combination of attributes. One player, the "codemaker", chooses a secret combination of four attributes and places it in a hidden compartment on the board. The other players, the "codebreakers", take turns guessing the secret combination.
To make a guess, a codebreaker places a set of four tiles on the board, each tile representing one of the four attributes. The codemaker then gives the codebreaker feedback on the guess, indicating how many of the tiles are correct in both attribute and position ("hits") and how many are correct in attribute but not position ("near misses").
The codebreakers use the feedback from the codemaker to make subsequent guesses until they correctly deduce the secret combination. The game ends when a codebreaker correctly guesses the secret combination or when all of the available guesses have been used.
Gameplay
To start the game, the codemaker chooses a secret combination of four attributes and places it in the hidden compartment on the board. The codebreakers then take turns guessing the secret combination.
Strategy
There are a number of strategies that codebreakers can use to increase their chances of deducing the secret combination. One common strategy is to start by guessing a combination that contains all of the different attributes. This will give the codemaker the most information to work with and will help to narrow down the possibilities.
Another strategy is to pay attention to the feedback from the codemaker. If a tile is a hit, then the codebreaker knows that the corresponding attribute is correct and in the correct position. If a tile is a near miss, then the codebreaker knows that the corresponding attribute is correct but in the wrong position.
By using these strategies, codebreakers can increase their chances of deducing the secret combination and winning the game.
